China’s leading battery manufacturer CATL has entered into a strategic partnership with Chongqing Logistics Group to accelerate transport electrification, battery swapping, and supply chain innovation. The collaboration was formalized through an agreement announced on April 7 via CATL’s official WeChat account.
Expanding Scope Across Logistics and Mobility
The agreement lays out plans for working together on a number of things, such as building infrastructure for battery swapping, electrifying transportation fleets, and making logistics systems work better. The co-development of an intermodal lithium battery transport model that connects road and inland waterway transport is a key part of the partnership.
Both companies aim to standardize operations along the “Qianli Qingzhou” corridor, a multimodal logistics route that combines different transport modes to improve efficiency and reduce emissions.
Existing Battery Swapping Ecosystem
CATL and Chongqing Logistics Group have already established a foundation of cooperation, particularly in electric bus fleets and passenger vehicle battery swapping. Leveraging CATL’s “Choco-Swap” battery swapping stations, Chongqing has developed a dense urban network that allows drivers to locate a station within ten minutes and complete a battery swap in approximately 99 seconds.
The system can now handle more than 5,000 new energy taxis, which are a faster and easier way to charge than traditional methods, especially in cities where taxis are used a lot.
Future Expansion into New Segments
In the future, the partnership will add ride-hailing fleets and light-duty logistics vehicles to the battery swapping network. The companies also want to look into using their technology in heavier transportation areas, such as battery-swapping solutions for trucks, electrifying inland waterway vessels, and adding self-driving technologies for last-mile delivery.
These projects will eventually include long-haul freight operations and bigger, more integrated logistics systems. This will help make the transportation system more efficient and environmentally friendly.
Driving Zero-Carbon Transport Goals
In the long term, CATL intends to deepen collaboration not only with Chongqing Logistics Group but also with additional industry partners. By focusing on battery swapping infrastructure and electrification technologies, the company aims to accelerate the transition toward zero-carbon urban mobility and trunk logistics.
The partnership reflects a broader push to enable faster operations, lower costs, and reduced emissions, contributing to the development of a cleaner and more efficient transportation network across multiple regions.
