GameChange Energy has started construction of a new 300,000-square-foot extra-high-voltage (EHV) transformer manufacturing facility in Mumbai, expanding its power infrastructure capabilities to meet rising demand from renewable energy, battery storage, and other power-intensive sectors.
The new facility represents a major investment in transformer manufacturing and will produce EHV power transformers rated up to 300 MVA and 500 kV.
The factory is planned to have an annual manufacturing capacity of approximately 150 medium- and large-sized power transformers. Production is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2028, while the company is already accepting orders for its upcoming EHV transformer range.
Facility Designed for Future Expansion
GameChange Energy said the Mumbai facility has been designed to support future expansion of its existing medium-voltage (MV) transformer manufacturing operations.
The planned expansion could add capacity for up to 500 additional transformers annually, including pad-mounted transformers. This would allow the company to broaden its product portfolio and respond to growing requirements across renewable energy and critical power infrastructure.
Phillip Vyhanek, CEO of GameChange Energy, said the investment would increase manufacturing capacity at a time when the power industry continues to face transformer supply constraints.
He added that customers can place orders for the company’s EHV transformers ahead of the planned start of production in Q1 2028, allowing developers to secure critical equipment for future projects.
Supporting Renewable Energy and BESS Infrastructure
The new factory is expected to strengthen GameChange Energy’s manufacturing footprint in India while supporting customers developing large-scale power infrastructure.
The company provides infrastructure solutions for utility-scale renewable energy projects, battery energy storage systems (BESS), data centres and other critical power applications.
Its portfolio includes solar trackers, fixed-tilt mounting systems, electrical balance-of-system (eBOS) solutions, transformers, drone-based asset inspection and customised infrastructure solutions.
The addition of EHV transformer manufacturing will expand the company’s role in the electrical infrastructure segment, particularly as the growth of renewable generation and battery storage increases demand for grid-connected equipment.
For India’s rapidly expanding clean-energy sector, transformer availability is increasingly important for connecting new generation and storage capacity to transmission and distribution networks. GameChange Energy’s Mumbai investment is aimed at addressing part of this growing equipment requirement while strengthening domestic manufacturing capacity.
