The Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy has approved an incentive of about ₹42 crore for Kinetic Watts & Volts Ltd., the electric vehicle (EV) arm of Kinetic Group. The benefit will be paid out in stages over the next ten years, helping the company’s efforts to grow and localize in the state.
Boost to Manufacturing and Localisation
The incentive is meant to help Kinetic Watts & Volts invest in robotics-led manufacturing, battery assembly operations, and moving parts closer to its production facilities in Maharashtra. The state policy aims to make Maharashtra a top place for making electric vehicles by giving money, tax breaks, and encouraging the production of parts in the state.
Focus on Domestic EV Production
Kinetic Watts & Volts recently launched its electric two-wheeler, the Kinetic DX EV, manufactured at its Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra facility. “99% of the vehicle’s components are sourced domestically,” the company said, which played a key role in qualifying for the scheme.
Ajinkya Firodia, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Kinetic Watts & Volts Ltd., stated, “The incentive, linked to our investment of around ₹70 crore, will support our manufacturing strategy and help accelerate localisation and production capacity expansion.”
Technology and Features
The Kinetic DX EV comes equipped with patented technologies such as Easy Charge, Easy FLIP, and Easy Key systems. It also offers 37 litres of under-seat storage. Sales and service operations have been launched in Pune, Mumbai, Vadodara, and Surat, with plans to expand nationwide.
Expansion Plans and Parent Company Background
The money from the incentive will be used to make more Kinetic DX EVs, improve battery assembly operations, and make the company’s manufacturing lines in Maharashtra bigger with the help of robots.
Kinetic Watts & Volts has been in business since September 2022 and has a factory that is 87,000 square feet. Kinetic Engineering Limited, the company’s parent company, has been in India’s automotive industry for more than 50 years and provides parts to major OEMs like Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Ashok Leyland.
The move reinforces Maharashtra’s push toward becoming a major EV manufacturing hub while supporting Kinetic’s mission to expand its domestic electric vehicle production footprint.
