Mecpower Solutions Limited and Navitas Solar have partnered to establish a 5 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing facility in Karjan, Gujarat. The facility is expected to commence operations in the first quarter of FY 2027–28 and will support India’s growing demand for battery storage solutions for renewable energy projects.
The proposed facility aims to expand domestic battery storage manufacturing capacity and strengthen India’s energy storage supply chain. The partnership will combine Mecpower Solutions’ expertise in renewable energy project development, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), and project execution with Navitas Solar’s manufacturing capabilities.
Integrated Battery Storage Manufacturing and Deployment
Mecpower Solutions and Navitas Solar have an existing business relationship across solar and renewable energy projects. Through the new partnership, the companies plan to expand into battery energy storage manufacturing and develop solutions for utility-scale renewable energy projects and commercial and industrial applications.
The proposed facility will function as an integrated platform covering manufacturing, project deployment and system integration. Its planned 5 GWh capacity is expected to serve the companies’ own EPC projects and utility-scale renewable energy developments, while also catering to demand from the wider energy storage market.
The collaboration is intended to support the growing deployment of battery storage systems alongside solar and wind power generation.
Battery Storage to Support Renewable Energy Integration
Battery energy storage systems play an important role in managing fluctuations in renewable electricity generation. These systems store surplus electricity when generation is high and discharge it during periods of increased demand or lower renewable energy output.
BESS installations can also improve grid flexibility, support electricity supply reliability and enable more efficient utilisation of renewable energy. The planned manufacturing facility in Gujarat will cater to these requirements as India expands its renewable energy capacity.
Companies Outline Energy Storage Expansion Plans
Setul Shah, Director of Mecpower Solutions Limited, said battery storage would be important for managing the variable generation of solar and wind power as India’s renewable energy capacity increases.
He added that the proposed 5 GWh facility in Karjan would strengthen the company’s presence across the energy storage value chain. Integrating battery storage manufacturing with its EPC and independent power producer (IPP) businesses is expected to support the development of scalable solutions for utility-scale renewable energy projects.
Ankit Singhania, Director of Navitas Solar, highlighted the growing role of battery storage in managing renewable energy generation and improving electricity utilisation. He also emphasised the importance of developing domestic manufacturing capabilities to strengthen India’s clean energy supply chain.
The partnership will extend Navitas Solar’s manufacturing operations into the energy storage segment and support the requirements of large-scale battery storage projects.
With operations targeted to begin in the first quarter of FY 2027–28, the proposed 5 GWh facility is expected to add to India’s domestic BESS manufacturing capacity and support the integration of renewable energy into the country’s electricity network.
