On July 29, Musashi India, the Indian subsidiary of Japan-based Musashi Seimitsu Industries, opened the Musashi Technology Excellence Centre (MTEC) in Bengaluru. The launch also marks a milestone as the company celebrates 23 years of operation in India.
The new center is at the Atria University Campus and requires an initial investment of 100 million rupees to focus on the development of both energy storage systems and electric mobility technologies under Indian conditions. The facility will have an instrumental role in the testing and validation of technologies by the teams all over the world at Musashi in liaison with international partners and suppliers. MTEC is also going to assist with speedy development of prototypes and localized solutions, with the global plans to increase their infrastructure and human resource base with the passage of time.
“From starting with a single customer in 2002 to now becoming a key supplier to major automotive OEMs across India, our journey has been both challenging and rewarding. The inauguration of the Musashi Technology Excellence Centre marks a significant step forward in enhancing our local R&D capabilities. With this center, we aim to remain aligned with the evolving needs of our customers and strengthen our innovation footprint in the Indian market.” Naoya Nishimura, CEO, Musashi India and Africa Region, said.
The center will target the creation of advanced energy storage technologies that are Indian-specific and seem to be in demand. High-level talent in areas like electrochemistry and data science is also another area that is likely to be attracted, which enhances the presence of Musashi research in the region.
“This initiative is a major leap in our global electric mobility roadmap. India is increasingly playing a central role in the global e-mobility ecosystem, and the establishment of the Musashi Technology Excellence Centre will enable us to cater to both domestic and international requirements. The center will be crucial in developing advanced, locally relevant energy storage solutions and underscores our commitment to sustainable mobility.” Masaru Maeda, Chief E-Mobility Officer, Musashi Seimitsu Industries, stated.
This plan is also in line with India wider climate commitments, such as the Net Zero by 2030 goals, and it also draws on the manufacturing and supply chain capabilities of the country. Musashi India is going to mix its experience of automotive manufacturing processes with the capabilities of Musashi Energy Solutions in hybrid supercapacitors to make the innovation.
