NLC India Limited (NLCIL), Neyveli, on behalf of its subsidiary NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), has invited bids to arrange approximately 1,500 acres of private land in Tamil Nadu through outright purchase for the development of solar PV projects. The last date for submission of bids is September 21, 2026.
Key Tender Highlights
- Land requirement: Approximately 1,500 acres of private land.
- Land acquisition: Land to be arranged through outright purchase and transferred to NIRL.
- Indicative land requirement: 5 acres per MW for solar project development.
- Minimum parcel size: Each individual land parcel should have at least 500 acres.
- Grid proximity: Land must be located within a 50-km radius of an STU substation rated at 110 kV or above.
- Approach road: Suitable road access must be available; otherwise, the bidder must construct an approach road.
- Clearances: Bidder will be responsible for obtaining required permits, NOCs, approvals and clearances.
- ROW responsibility: Any Right of Way issues related to transmission lines must be resolved by the successful bidder.
- Bid deadline: September 21, 2026.
Under the tender, bidders will be responsible for identifying suitable land, conducting topographical surveys and providing site-enabling facilities as specified in the technical requirements. The successful bidder must complete the outright purchase of the land and facilitate its transfer in the name of NIRL.
Multiple land parcels can be offered and considered, provided that at least one parcel has a minimum area of 500 acres. All parcels must have direct access from a main road without ownership disputes or other obstacles. Where such access is unavailable, the bidder will have to construct an approach road through the shortest feasible route.
The tender also places responsibility on the successful bidder for resolving any Right of Way (ROW) issues arising from interconnecting transmission lines across the offered land. The requirement that sites be located within 50 km of an eligible STU substation is intended to ensure suitable proximity to the transmission network.
At five acres per MW, the 1,500-acre requirement could potentially support around 300 MW of solar capacity, subject to final site assessments, project configuration and technical feasibility. The tender highlights NLC India’s continued focus on expanding its renewable energy portfolio and developing utility-scale solar projects in Tamil Nadu.
