NUVVE JAPAN K.K., headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, has secured the rights to install and operate a grid-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in Oyada, Mino City, Gifu Prefecture. The project will have a rated output of 2 MW and a storage capacity of 8 MWh, offering a four-hour discharge duration. Commercial operations are scheduled to commence in November 2026.
With this latest acquisition, Nuvve Japan’s total contracted capacity now stands at 6 MW, marking another significant step in the company’s strategy to scale energy storage deployments across Japan.
Advanced Market Operations Powered by the Nuvve Platform
The Gifu BESS project will be operated using the globally deployed “Nuvve Platform,” which has an established track record of aggregating electric vehicles and stationary batteries across North America and Europe. By the time operations begin, Nuvve Japan plans to further enhance its Japan-specific market intelligence.
The platform’s proprietary artificial intelligence will enable high-accuracy price forecasting, automated bidding, and rapid market response. It will support active participation across multiple revenue streams, including the Japan Electric Power Exchange (JEPX) and the frequency response balancing market, allowing the asset to maximize arbitrage opportunities while contributing to grid stability.
Long-Duration Storage Using Sungrow Technology
The project will deliver four hours of continuous discharge, pairing a 2 MW output with an 8 MWh capacity, enabling reliable power supply during peak evening demand periods. The system will deploy grid-scale battery technology from Sungrow, a globally recognized battery solutions provider, ensuring high standards of safety, performance, and operational reliability.
