Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has commissioned a 300 MW solar power project for the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) in Koppal, Karnataka, strengthening its utility-scale renewable energy portfolio. The project has been developed by TP Saurya, a wholly owned subsidiary of TPREL, and is expected to generate approximately 810 million units (MUs) of renewable electricity annually.
Announced on November 5, 2026, the commissioning marks another milestone for the company in expanding India’s clean energy infrastructure. The project is also expected to mitigate approximately 103,820 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
Key Highlights of Tata Power’s Koppal Solar Project
- Project Capacity: 300 MW
- Location: Koppal, Karnataka
- Offtaker: Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI)
- Annual Generation: 810 MUs
- Annual Emission Reduction: 103,820 tonnes of CO₂
- Project Developer: TP Saurya, a wholly owned subsidiary of TPREL
- Technology: Solar trackers and bifacial solar modules
Solar Trackers and Bifacial Modules Enhance Generation
The Koppal solar project incorporates solar tracking technology that enables solar modules to follow the movement of the sun, helping optimise energy generation throughout the day.
The project also deploys TP580HG10NB bifacial solar modules. The combination of solar trackers and high-efficiency bifacial modules is designed to improve the utilisation of the project site and support efficient renewable power generation.
The project will supply renewable electricity to SECI, contributing to the expansion of clean energy generation in Karnataka.
Women Professionals Contribute to Project Execution
The Koppal project also reflects TPREL’s focus on workforce diversity in renewable energy operations. Around 16 women professionals, representing nearly 40% of the workforce at the project site, have contributed to key functions, including site management and engineering.
Their participation in technical execution, engineering and team management highlights the increasing involvement of women in technical and leadership roles within India’s renewable energy sector.
Tata Power Renewable Energy’s Utility Capacity Reaches 12 GW
With the commissioning of the Koppal project, TPREL’s total renewable utility capacity has reached 12 GW, including operational projects and those under implementation.
According to the company:
- Operational Capacity: Approximately 7.2 GW
- Operational Solar Capacity: 5.8 GW
- Operational Wind Capacity: 1.3 GW
- Projects Under Implementation: Approximately 4.9 GW
- Total Renewable Utility Capacity: 12 GW
- Battery Energy Storage Capacity: 0.7 GWh
The company continues to develop renewable energy projects across solar, wind, hybrid, round-the-clock power, peak power and floating solar segments, alongside battery storage solutions.
Tata Power Strengthens Its Renewable Energy Portfolio
The commissioning of the 300 MW Koppal solar project reinforces Tata Power Renewable Energy’s focus on developing large-scale renewable energy infrastructure and supporting India’s transition towards a low-carbon energy system.
Through its expanding renewable portfolio, the company is contributing to clean electricity generation while strengthening its capabilities in solar project development, engineering, procurement, construction and operations.
