In a major step toward promoting sustainable transportation and accelerating electric vehicle (EV) adoption, Tripura has inaugurated its first CAPEX-based public EV charging station in Agartala. The initiative marks a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to develop a robust green mobility ecosystem and reduce dependence on conventional fossil-fuel-powered transportation.
The newly launched charging station is equipped with a 30 kW DC fast charger and a 7.4 kW AC charger, enabling efficient charging solutions for a wide range of electric vehicles. Designed to cater to both private and commercial EV users, the facility offers a modern, fully digital, and self-service charging experience. Users can access charging services conveniently through digital platforms, ensuring seamless operations and reduced waiting times.
The commissioning of this charging station reflects Tripura’s commitment to building essential infrastructure that supports the growing demand for electric vehicles. As EV adoption continues to gain momentum across India, the availability of reliable and accessible charging facilities is becoming increasingly important. The new station is expected to encourage more consumers and businesses to transition to cleaner transportation alternatives by addressing one of the key concerns associated with EV ownershipโcharging accessibility.
Further strengthening its green mobility agenda, Tripura has proposed the installation of 94 additional public EV charging stations under the Government of India’s PM E-Drive Scheme. The proposed network expansion aims to establish a comprehensive charging infrastructure across the state, ensuring that EV users have convenient access to charging facilities in major towns, highways, and strategic locations.
Once implemented, the expanded charging network is expected to significantly improve EV accessibility and usability throughout Tripura. The initiative will not only support the state’s environmental goals but also contribute to reducing carbon emissions, improving air quality, and promoting sustainable urban and rural transportation systems.
Officials believe that the development of an extensive EV charging ecosystem will play a crucial role in encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles among residents, businesses, and public transport operators. It is also expected to attract investments in the clean energy and mobility sectors, generating new economic opportunities while supporting India’s broader transition toward sustainable transportation.
With the launch of its first public EV charging station and ambitious plans for further expansion, Tripura is positioning itself as a proactive participant in India’s clean mobility revolution and a model for sustainable infrastructure development in the Northeast region.
