Indian energy technology company Trontek Electronics is expanding into battery energy storage systems (BESS), targeting 12 GWh of annual manufacturing capacity by 2028. The planned expansion will cover residential, commercial and industrial (C&I), industrial and utility-scale applications, as the company seeks to build on its experience in battery technology, electric mobility and charging solutions.
The expansion marks the next phase of Trontek’s evolution, building on more than two decades of experience in battery technology, electric mobility, charging, and energy solutions. The company is targeting 12 GWh of annual BESS manufacturing capacity by 2028, creating the scale to support its growing presence across C&I and utility-scale energy storage markets.
Trontek’s move into BESS comes as energy storage becomes increasingly important to India’s transition towards renewable energy and electrification. Its portfolio is designed to address diverse requirements – from residential energy management and commercial power optimisation to industrial applications and utility-scale storage.
Speaking about the expansion, Samrath S. Kochar, Founder & CEO, Trontek, said: ““The next energy revolution will not be about generating more power, but about making energy more intelligent, flexible and accessible. As mobility, homes, industry and the grid converge, storage will become a defining layer of the new energy economy. BESS is the next evolution of Trontek’s two-decade journey in battery and energy technology – taking our expertise from powering applications to enabling energy systems at scale, built in India for the opportunities ahead. India has the opportunity to build globally competitive energy storage capabilities. Trontek intends to help shape that future.”
A BESS Portfolio Built Across the Energy Ecosystem
Trontek is bringing a multi-application BESS portfolio ranging from 215 kWh to 5 MWh, designed to address energy storage requirements across different scales and use cases:
- Residential & Distributed Energy: Modular storage solutions supporting renewable energy utilisation, energy management, and power resilience.
- Commercial & Industrial (C&I): 215 kWh-class systems designed for applications such as hotels, offices, and SME manufacturing, supporting demand management, energy optimisation, and power reliability.
- Industrial & Campus Applications: 418 kWh-class systems designed for larger facilities including factories, warehouses, hospitals, and industrial campuses.
- Utility & Grid-scale Storage: 5 MWh systems designed for larger applications including industrial parks, utilities and large solar-plus-storage projects, supporting renewable integration and grid flexibility.
The portfolio enables Trontek to address energy storage requirements across the spectrum – from distributed residential and commercial applications to large-scale industrial and utility infrastructure.
For homes, the solutions can support greater utilisation of renewable power and energy resilience; for C&I customers, they can help manage demand, optimise energy consumption and strengthen power reliability; while at industrial and utility scales, BESS can support renewable integration, grid flexibility and more efficient management of electricity supply and demand. Trontek is already engaging with customers across these applications as it builds its presence in India’s rapidly expanding energy storage market.
Building in India, Scaling for India
A central pillar of Trontek’s strategy is local engineering and manufacturing, supported by capabilities across battery systems, testing, system integration, technology development, and service. The company is developing solutions suited to India’s diverse operating environments and application requirements, while building the foundation to scale as demand for energy storage grows.
Trontek’s 12 GWh manufacturing capacity target by 2028 underlines its longer-term ambition to evolve from a battery technology and manufacturing company into a broader energy technology player, with energy storage emerging as a significant growth pillar alongside its mobility and other energy businesses.
As mobility, renewable energy and electricity infrastructure become increasingly interconnected, Trontek aims to contribute to the technology and manufacturing ecosystem required for this transition.
