Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies (ARACT) has commissioned its Customer Qualification Plant (CQP) at the company’s Giga Corridor in Divitipalli, Mahabubnagar district, Telangana. This facility is a major step for the company in strengthening India’s advanced battery manufacturing ecosystem and supporting the country’s growing electric mobility sector. This new facility marks a major step in India’s advanced battery manufacturing journey, with an initial 60 MWh lithium-ion cell production capacity
The plant was inaugurated by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in the presence of Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, senior government officials, and company executives. During the event, the Chief Minister highlighted the state’s continued focus on industrial expansion alongside infrastructure and irrigation development.
Developed with an investment of approximately Rs. 500 crore, the Customer Qualification Plant has an initial manufacturing capacity of 60 MWh. The facility will manufacture cylindrical and prismatic lithium-ion battery cells, with commercial production for customer qualification and validation expected to begin in August.
The newly commissioned plant forms part of Phase I of Amara Raja’s proposed Rs. 9,500-crore Giga Corridor in Telangana. Phase I itself represents an investment of around Rs. 1,500 crore and is expected to play a key role in building domestic battery cell manufacturing capabilities. The facility currently employs more than 100 people, with further employment opportunities likely to be created as the project expands.
Speaking at the inauguration, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy reaffirmed the state’s commitment to creating a favourable environment for industrial investments. He said the government is continuing the positive industrial policies introduced by previous administrations while implementing new sector-specific initiatives under the Telangana Rising 2047 vision.
The Chief Minister also reiterated Telangana’s ambition of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2034, with the goal of increasing the state’s contribution to India’s GDP from 5% to 10%.
Alongside industrial development, Revanth Reddy announced progress on key irrigation initiatives for the Palamuru region. He said the government is working to secure 90 TMCft of water for the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme and 30 TMCft for the Dindi project. Discussions with the neighbouring state are currently underway, and an announcement on the matter is expected soon.
He added that the state government is accelerating the completion of pending irrigation projects while ensuring balanced growth across both agriculture and industry. According to the Chief Minister, improved irrigation infrastructure will benefit lakhs of acres of farmland and help enhance farmers’ incomes.
Commenting on the project, Jayadev Galla, Chairman of Amara Raja Group, said the commissioning of the Customer Qualification Plant represents an important step towards strengthening India’s capabilities in advanced battery technologies.
“The project will strengthen India’s capabilities in advanced battery technology and contribute to building a self-reliant energy ecosystem,” Galla said.
The commissioning of the Customer Qualification Plant comes at a time when India is rapidly expanding its domestic battery manufacturing capacity to support electric vehicles, renewable energy integration, and energy storage systems. As demand for lithium-ion batteries continues to grow, facilities such as Amara Raja’s Giga Corridor are expected to play a vital role in reducing import dependence while supporting the country’s clean energy and electric mobility ambitions.
