The state of the art of the battery and battery pack industry in Italy within the European context, the sector’s technological level, and the challenges it faces will be the key topics at the second edition of Battery Day, the conference-event dedicated to the battery industry that will be held in 2026, in the “Alessandro Volta” Conference Hall, inside Hall 22 at Bologna Exhibition Centre.
The event is organized by E-Tech Europe 2026, the international exhibition dedicated to advanced batteries and innovative technologies for the production and recycling of electric and hybrid vehicles for the automotive, transport, and industrial sectors, scheduled from October 7 to 9, 2026, and by Battery Industry, a leading industry portal with over one hundred thousand followers on LinkedIn.
The agenda will include critical raw materials and initiatives to reduce dependence on external supplies in the battery sector, where Italy and Europe are pursuing three main strategies: recycling, material substitution, and the development of both new and existing mining sites.
This will be followed by an in-depth focus on skills, a key factor in strengthening the Italian system. This highlights the need to develop specialized professional profiles, both in qualitative and quantitative terms, as well as the importance of technology transfer from research to industry, on both the hardware and software fronts.
The program will also include a discussion among key players on both the demand and supply sides regarding the outlook for the BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) market, currently one of the most promising segments for the development of Made in Italy. The debate will focus on opportunities related to grid stabilization services and the capacity market, the mechanism that remunerates energy availability to ensure the security of the electricity system. The day will conclude with a pitch session dedicated to a selection of innovative start-ups.
The conference will feature leading players in the sector, including ANIE (National Federation of Electrotechnical and Electronic Companies), ARERA (Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and Environment), BEPA (Batteries European Partnership Association), CNR (National Research Council), ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable
Economic Development), EUROBAT (Association of European Automotive and Industrial Battery Manufacturers), Motus-E, and RSE (Energy System Research).
“The highly qualified context in which Battery Day 2026 will take place, together with the outstanding panel of high-level speakers involved, will provide a comprehensive overview of innovation in the battery sector,” said Marco Pinetti, Director of E-Tech Europe. “The event will represent a key opportunity for updates and knowledge sharing, helping to create the necessary conditions for the development of the sector also in Italy.”
