Covenergo and Delta Capacity Launch Construction of 300 MWh Battery Storage Project in Finland

Covenergo, a renewable energy services provider, and Switzerland-based battery storage developer and operator Delta Capacity are collaborating on AKKU One, a standalone 125 MW/300 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Lapinlahti, Finland. Construction is currently underway, with the project expected to begin operations in Q4 2027.

AKKU One was acquired as a ready-to-build (RTB) asset from Helios Nordic Energy. Covenergo, as majority owner, brings extensive experience in renewable energy development, project finance and long-term asset value creation across its European portfolio. Delta Capacity contributes its Nordic execution and battery storage expertise, taking responsibility for securing offtake, construction and long-term asset management as EPCM contractor, in close cooperation with Covenergo’s team.

The project marks Delta Capacity’s second battery storage project in Finland, building on the company’s expanding presence across the Nordic region following the completion of the 70 MW / 160 MWh Ånge BESS in Sweden earlier this year. The project represents an important step in both companies’ continued expansion into large-scale flexible energy assets and further strengthens their strategic presence in the Nordic energy market.

“This partnership and acquisition is an important step forward for Covenergo’s flexible asset portfolio and reinforces our growing footprint in the Nordic energy market. We remain fully committed to delivering high-quality, investment-ready projects that support Europe’s energy transition,” said František Kalivoda, CEO of Covenergo.

“AKKU One once again reaffirms our belief in the Nordic market and our expertise in delivering high-quality battery storage projects — including as a trusted partner for developers like Covenergo. We’re proud to bring the same speed and execution that delivered Ånge to our new project in Finland,” said Patrik Hes, CEO of Delta Capacity.

A Nordic delivery team is supporting construction and future operations. Rejlers, a Nordic engineering consultancy, is providing technical project support throughout construction. Sungrow, a global leader in battery energy storage technology, will supply the project’s battery system, following the 1 GWh framework agreement signed with Delta Capacity earlier this year.

NYAB is delivering Balance of Plant works, Ampner is carrying out grid connection studies and compliance verification, and GreenPowerMonitor, a DNV company, will provide the energy management and SCADA systems for real-time monitoring and control once AKKU One is operational.

Once operational, AKKU One will provide flexibility to Finland’s power system, supporting frequency regulation and balancing services as the country continues to integrate growing volumes of wind and solar generation.
