CATL Partners with BME to Advance Battery Pack Manufacturing in Egypt Through Technology Licensing

CATL has signed a cooperation agreement with Battery Manufacturing in Egypt (BME) to support the local assembly and production of battery packs in Egypt. Under the agreement, CATL will provide battery pack technology, production equipment and technical training, while BME plans to source battery cells from CATL

Under the agreement, BME plans to source battery cells from CATL, while CATL will support BME with battery pack technology licensing, production equipment and technical training. The cooperation will enable BME to assemble and produce battery packs in Egypt, helping strengthen the country’s localized battery manufacturing capabilities.

The planned battery pack facility, developed and fully funded by BME, will have an initial annual production capacity of 1 GWh and will focus on battery packs for heavy-duty commercial vehicles. Under its long-term plan, BME expects to expand annual capacity to 5 GWh and broaden its product portfolio to include passenger vehicle battery packs and energy storage systems for solar and wind power applications.

BME was jointly established by MCV, an Egyptian commercial vehicle manufacturer, and Auto D, an automotive industry solutions provider. Through its partnership with CATL, BME will supply the battery packs directly to local automakers.

Looking ahead, CATL will continue to work with global partners to apply its battery technologies, manufacturing experience and partnership model in more markets, supporting the development of localized battery value chain and the wider adoption of electrification solutions.

CATL is a global leader in zero-carbon new energy technology, committed to providing first-class solutions and services for global new energy applications, building a zero-carbon energy ecosystem with a comprehensive incremental strategy, promoting energy transition and sustainable development.
