KB Recycling Pvt Ltd has signed a downstream off-take Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BatX Energies for the supply and processing of black mass generated from its upcoming battery recycling facility. Under the agreement, BatX Energies will process the black mass produced at KB Recycling’s facility, supporting the recovery of valuable materials from manufacturing scrap and end-of-life lithium-ion batteries.

The partnership is expected to contribute to India’s domestic battery recycling ecosystem and support Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) compliance by enabling the recovery of battery-grade materials through a localised recycling value chain.

KB Recycling is developing a battery recycling facility in the Visakhapatnam industrial corridor, with a planned processing capacity of 3,000 tonnes per annum (TPA). The facility is expected to handle lithium-ion battery waste and manufacturing scrap, generating black mass that can be further processed to recover critical battery materials.

The collaboration with BatX Energies is aimed at strengthening the downstream processing of recycled battery materials while supporting the development of a circular economy for lithium-ion batteries in India.

As the country’s electric vehicle and energy storage markets expand, demand for efficient battery recycling and the recovery of critical materials such as lithium, nickel, cobalt and manganese is expected to rise. Partnerships across the recycling value chain could play a key role in reducing dependence on imported raw materials and improving resource security for India’s growing battery industry.
