Madhya Pradesh has taken a major step towards strengthening its renewable energy portfolio with the inauguration of two large solar parks with a combined capacity of 950 MW and the signing of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the state’s first solar-plus-storage project in Morena. The developments underscore the state’s growing focus on clean energy and energy storage as it seeks to meet rising electricity demand while reducing dependence on conventional power sources.
On June 29, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi and State Minister for New and Renewable Energy Rakesh Shukla inaugurated 500 MW Neemuch Solar Park and 450 MW Shajapur Solar Park. With these Solar Parks project commissioned, Madhya Pradesh has added 950 MW of utility-scale solar power to its renewable energy portfolio.
The event also saw signing of PPA for 440 MW Morena Solar-Plus-Storage Project which is being touted as Madhya Pradesh’s first integrated solar-plus-storage project. The project has secured a tariff of Rs 2.70 per unit, making it one of the most competitively priced firm and dispatchable renewable energy projects in the country. The tariff is also the first in India to be below ₹3 per unit for a firm renewable energy project.
Additional Chief Secretary, New and Renewable Energy, Manu Srivastava said the Morena project marks a significant milestone for the state’s clean energy journey. The project is expected to deliver reliable renewable power supported by energy storage, ensuring power availability even during non-solar hours. The project is being implemented by Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL), a joint venture of Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (MPUVNL).
According to state officials, the Neemuch Solar Park comprises three units, with tariffs discovered at ₹2.15 per unit for Unit 1, ₹2.14 per unit for Unit 2 and ₹2.15 per unit for Unit 3. The project ranks among the lowest tariff solar parks in the country. Similarly, the 450 MW Shajapur Solar Park comprises three units with tariffs of ₹2.35 per unit, ₹2.33 per unit and ₹2.339 per unit for Units 1, 2 and 3, respectively.
The officials also mentioned that the under-construction 550 MW Agar Solar Park has witnessed tariffs of ₹2.45 per unit and ₹2.44 per unit for its two units, further cementing the state’s position as one of the leading renewable energy states in India.
In addition to renewable energy projects, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone and inaugurated industrial and development projects worth ₹1,593.98 crore during the event. State officials say the projects will assist significantly to industrial growth, energy security and sustainable development across Madhya Pradesh.
With the addition of new solar capacity and the integration of energy storage, Madhya Pradesh is increasingly positioning itself as a key player in India’s transition towards a cleaner, more resilient and dispatchable power ecosystem.
