Mecpower Signs MoU with Gujarat Government for 5 GWh BESS Facility

Mecpower Solutions Limited has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat for the establishment of a 5 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) assembly facility in Karjan. The proposed project involves a capital investment of approximately Rs 160 crore and forms part of the company’s efforts to expand its presence in India’s growing clean energy sector.

The planned facility will be dedicated to assembling battery energy storage systems designed to serve utility-scale renewable energy projects as well as commercial and industrial applications. With the rapid expansion of renewable energy capacity across the country, energy storage systems are becoming increasingly important for improving grid reliability, balancing intermittent power generation, and supporting the efficient integration of renewable energy into the electricity network.

Battery energy storage systems are expected to play a significant role in strengthening India’s power infrastructure by enabling better management of electricity supply and demand while enhancing overall grid stability. The proposed Karjan facility is intended to cater to the rising demand for advanced energy storage solutions across multiple sectors as the country accelerates its transition towards cleaner sources of energy.

Commenting on the development, Setul Shah, Managing Director of Mecpower Solutions Limited, said, “Our proposed investment in a 5 GWh Battery Energy Storage System assembly facility reflects our confidence in India’s clean energy growth story and our commitment to strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities.”

The proposed investment underscores Mecpower Solutions Limited’s focus on supporting the country’s clean energy ambitions while contributing to the development of domestic manufacturing capabilities in the energy storage segment. Once established, the facility is expected to strengthen the company’s position in the expanding Battery Energy Storage System market and support the growing requirements of renewable energy, commercial, and industrial customers across India.
