As India’s solar industry scales rapidly, the spotlight is not only on generation capacity but also on the strength of the supply chain that supports it. From modules and inverters to cables and balance-of-system components, timely delivery and technical support have become critical for project execution.
At The smarter E India 2026, The Battery Magazine interacted with Rohan Ramesh Shelar, Joint Managing Director of OSG Oriana India Pvt. Ltd., a company that has positioned itself as one of India’s leading solar PV product distributors. In this conversation, he shared insights into their scale of operations, evolving market dynamics, and the impact of Make in India on the solar ecosystem.
Can you tell us about OSG Oriana and your core business operations?
OSG Oriana India Pvt. Ltd. is one of India’s leading solar PV product distribution companies. Our portfolio spans across key components required for solar projects.
We deal in:
• Solar modules from leading brands such as LONGi and Goldi Solar
• Inverters from major players like Solis and other global brands
• In-house manufactured products such as solar walkways under our brand “Fibre X”
Beyond distribution, our strength lies in supply chain management, where we ensure timely and efficient delivery across India. We have been serving the industry for over 10 years, working closely with major IPPs and EPC companies.
How would you quantify your distribution scale in terms of megawatts and project supplies?
If we look at our recent performance:
• We have supplied over 2,000 MW of inverters
• Delivered more than 500 km of Fibre X walkways
• Supplied close to 1 lakh kilometers of cables for large-scale solar projects
These numbers reflect not just volume but also our execution capability. Even as a distributor, we have achieved volumes that many OEMs themselves aim for.
What sets us apart is our technical support team of over 15 professionals, who ensure that any gaps or challenges faced by clients are addressed quickly and effectively.
You have been in the industry for over a decade. How has the market evolved with initiatives like Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat?
The Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives have had a significant impact on the solar industry.
Earlier, the Indian market was largely dependent on global suppliers. However, with policies like the ALMM (Approved List of Models and Manufacturers), we have seen a strong push towards domestic manufacturing.
Today, India’s solar manufacturing capacity has grown to approximately 140+ GW, which is a remarkable shift.
We have also observed:
• Improved product quality from Indian manufacturers
• Stronger technical capabilities and support systems
• Increased confidence in domestic brands
Even global companies that we work with have expanded their manufacturing footprint in India significantly, which has helped meet growing demand.
How has this shift impacted your business strategy as a distributor?
With the rise of domestic manufacturing, we have also adapted our strategy.
We are now increasingly working with Indian manufacturers and locally produced solutions, while continuing to support global brands.
At the same time, our long-term vision is to:
• Expand beyond India
• Promote and distribute Indian-made solar products in international markets
This aligns with the broader vision of making India a global manufacturing hub for renewable energy components.
What message would you like to share with your customers and partners?
Our customers are the backbone of our business.
At OSG Oriana, our core philosophy has always been commitment and reliability. In solar projects, even small components can become critical if not delivered on time.
We ensure that:
• Every product, no matter how small, is delivered on time
• Clients receive complete support throughout the project lifecycle
• We maintain transparency and trust in every engagement
We are committed to continuing this approach and delivering consistent value to our partners.
