The government of Andhra Pradesh has made its plans to expand renewable energy even bigger by giving land to two ultra-mega solar parks in the Kadapa and Kurnool districts. Each project will be able to produce 1,000 MW, which shows that the state is serious about building up large solar infrastructure that is connected to the grid.
The decision was cleared during a recent cabinet meeting, highlighting the government’s commitment to accelerating clean energy development. Under the approved framework, government land will be transferred to Andhra Pradesh Solar Power Corporation Limited (APSPCL), the state’s nodal agency for solar projects. APSPCL will subsequently lease the land to private developers for project execution.
Land Allocation Details for Solar Parks
The identified land parcels include 466.54 acres in Mylavaram mandal of YSR Kadapa district and approximately 737.66 acres in Orvakal mandal of Kurnool district. Both sites will be leased for a duration of 33 years to facilitate the establishment of large-scale solar power plants.
This structured allocation is expected to enable efficient project development while ensuring long-term availability of land for renewable energy initiatives.
Adoption of Lease-Based Development Model
The state has changed its approach to these solar projects from giving up land permanently to leasing it, which is a more controlled and long-lasting model. The rent for the Kadapa solar park is set at 10% of the market value in 2016, and it will go up by 10% every five years.
In the case of the Kurnool project, the annual lease rent has been set at ₹20,000 per acre, based on a notional land value of ₹2 lakh per acre. This rate will also see a 10 percent increase every five years over the 33-year lease period.
Supporting Investment and Renewable Energy Growth
Official sources say that the lease-based model lets the government keep ownership of land while also letting the private sector take part in renewable energy projects. The state wants to speed up approvals, improve coordination, and bring in more money for solar energy by routing land allocation through APSPCL.
These two solar parks are expected to greatly increase Andhra Pradesh’s renewable energy capacity and help India reach its bigger goals for clean energy and sustainability.
